Give

June 12, 2021

“…give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38

There is a sweet little song that some churches sing while taking up the offering during service.  It says to give unto the Lord, and the Lord will give you more to give.  While the exact words of the song are not a quoted scripture, the message of the words agrees with the Word.  Give, and what you shared with others will in return be given back to you.

Money is a necessity in the everyday functions of life.  It is the means to attain much of our food, clothing and other needed items to operate in life.  Those who are generous with money will find that the generosity is returned.  When we have our own needs met, or even have abundance above our necessities, sharing our wealth blesses others.  May we all be inspired to help others through the hardships of life when we ourselves have been so blessed.

Beyond money, there are many other ways we can give, and may each one of us be inspired to do so in our everyday lives.  The Bible teaches that we reap what we sow.  Another expression that shares the same idea is, “What goes around comes around.”

When it comes to giving, let us be inspired to give the things that change the atmosphere. Let us give what can change a life, a home, a neighborhood and more.

Is there love in our hearts?  By all means, let us give it to others!  We can each reach out to others from the love in our hearts and bless everyone we know.  The beautiful discovery that follows is the many people around us that return that love.  As one person, we give.  However, when that love is returned, it comes back to us by many, many people.  “Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over...”

Is there joy in our souls?  Share, share, share!  Let us celebrate life, achievements, victories and all things good with those we encounter every day!  Let us be that breath of fresh air others love to see and interact with!  Give joy!  Once again, when it is our turn to celebrate a victory or achievement, the joy will be returned to us by many others who are rejoicing with us.  “Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over...”

The list of things we can give to others can change a life, and even a destiny.  Peace, hope, kindness, longsuffering and forgiveness are a handful of offerings we can easily give to others.  It isn’t only a blessing to give these things, but to receive the same in our own times of need.

Every morning when we open our eyes to face the new day, we have a choice.  We can give, or we can withhold.  There are so many people in our own neighborhoods and cities that would welcome all that we could offer them.  Not only do they desire and welcome what we can give but will be happy to share and give back to us in return.  Humanity needs each other, and those who have been blessed should be leading the way to give to others.  And in our giving, the generosity we give to others will never cause our own supply of blessings to run out.  “Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over...”
